Changing your Disney+ Country

Will the US have the biggest and best Disney+ catalogue? As soon as its released in November we'll be able to compare, but for now we are only guessing if we say it will be better. HOWEVER, we have good reason to believe that countries will have different content.

We already know from our experience with Netflix on our site whatsnewonnetflix.com that Netflix has vastly different content in each country. It seems reasonable to believe that Disney Plus will be similar.

Not only that, but in obtaining the titles available in the Dutch trial we've found release dates for some movies and shows that show their delayed release in other countries. That means that other countries will have less content than the Netherlands, and it's reasonable that there are titles that the Netherlands won't get initially (or at all??).

What about using a VPN?

ExpressVPN already allows users to access Netflix in different countries (see our page Get American Netflix). This method doesn't currently work for accessing Dutch Disney+, but we've been told that they are working on it.

With Netflix, your local login works in any country, and we assume Disney+ will be the same. Otherwise how would you watch shows on your laptop or mobile device while travelling? We can't imagine that Disney would want to cut off travellers from their favorite shows!

So What Now?

Well, for now, we wait. Disney+ becomes available "for real" in November, and then we'll be able to do some testing and see what's possible. Until then there are 2 things you can do:

  1. Sign up for our What's New On Disney+ Newsletter. We'll keep you updated on anything related to Disney+, including VPN and country-changing options.
  2. Check out our Complete List of Dutch Disney+ Titles. It might be painful to "look not touch", but at least you'll know what to expect.
